RTE Nationwide coverage of the Toy Soldier Factory and Battle of Waterloo Exhibit 14th October 2015

At the start of August 2015 RTE showed interest in including our Toy Soldier Factory in one of their upcoming Nationwide programs. Several staff were interviewed and so was André Rudolph, the creator of the huge Battle of Waterloo diorama currently on exhibit in our visitor center.

Finally on October 14th 2015, the program aired and we were shown in the second half of that episode. We are very pleased with the segment and are grateful to those involved with RTE for having shared our business with the rest of their audience.

With that in mind Prince August has cut the prices of their bargain starter kits by 50% until noon on October 21st 2015 UTC+1.

Video on Mithril LOTR painting competition: Beregond fighting Troll at the Black Gate

Mithril Miniatures released a new vignette called Beregond fighting Troll at the Black Gate in March 2012.
Our collectors often love to paint up their collectables and submit gallery photos, and we encourage this.
So we started a competition to see who could paint up this new vignette the 'best', at least from the viewpoint of our two judges, Lars Edman (Mithril founder) and Chris Tubb (Mithril's sculptor).

The rules were fairly standard, avoid digital painting, text and modifications that would change the appearance of the vignette. It was allowed to make a diorama, and some entries took full advantage of that option but it was in no way a requirement.

We should have a list of the winners next week.
I made a little video of the entries on my YT channel. Check it out and post a comment about the entries. They did great work,  considering they did not have a huge window of opportunity to paint the vignette (max of 2 months).

Soldering a metal Toy Soldier together with a soldering iron.

Sometimes glue is just not your cup of tea, you want firmer hold, perhaps for more demanding wargaming or for your children to be able to be more aggressive when playing with their castings.
In a previous video I showed how to use a gas tank and welding/soldering torch, but most people will not be able to afford such equipment, so today I show how to use a little soldering iron, easily available from any hardware store. We are using soldering wire with a composite of 63% Tin and 37% Lead.

This video covers all the important steps to soldering and all in about a 3 minute video. Key to a good solder project is taking the time to clean the metal of all dirt and greese, otherwise the solder will not adhere properly.

The figure we are demonstrating with is the 54mm scale Napoleonic French Artilleryman (PA80-12). He has a ramrod in his hand used for loading the cannon.
